When did Macy’s buy Justin Bieber?

I’m not going to sit here and lie to you. I’m not going to tell you that I didn’t enjoy the Justin Bieber Black Friday ad during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. I did, and I laughed. Every one of the one hundred times they played it. If you haven’t seen it, here it is. If you have seen it, please enjoy it again. You’re welcome.

I even kind of enjoyed the “All I Want for Christmas” video. But kinda I didn’t. Watch it, and then we can discuss.

First of all, when did Macy’s buy Justin Bieber?

Second of all, who was in charge of this project? And why did they forget that Mariah Carey is 41 and Justin Bieber 17? Don’t get me wrong here, because I’m not trying to slam Mariah Carey. She’s still hot. But shaking your ass to a 17 year-old is just…inappropriate. And weird. And inappropriate. And I don’t know about you, but I’m sitting here doing some super fancy math and my counting fingers tell me that if there were some very unfortunate and also inappropriate situations, she is bordering on being old enough to be his grandmother. Extreme, I know, but almost true.

We rock with Pandora all day

Today’s NaBloPoMo prompt is: Can you listen to music and write? What song did you hear today?

I’m going to switch it up a bit and give a list of what I am listening to right now.

Listening to music while I am doing any kind of work is not only possible for me, but it is a requisite. It is the one and ONLY thing that keeps my daughter from mom-mom-momming me every ten seconds.

Top ten artists we are listening to now and why (and in no particular order).

Lady Gaga – Okay, I’ve always liked Lady Gaga. She is clearly talented, and I have a soft spot for pop music. But her newest single “You and I” really stole my heart.

Mumford and Sons – My friend Brooke introduced me to this. Dave Matthews meets Coldplay. Sad, but soothing, and good background music.

Florence and the Machine – I’m pretty convinced at this point that no one current does it like Florence. Adele is close, but too one-dimensional in her lyrics. Boys aren’t the only thing to be sad about, Adele!!

Radiohead – Although their latest album is slightly depressing, it seems to play on a loop in our car. And that’s okay.

Bruno Mars – I don’t even know what to say about this. Kid has talent, I tell ya! And my daughter freaks.out. when he comes on.

Ke$ha – For when I want to pretend that I’m single. And am going to brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack before going out and hittin’ on dudes. Hard.

Ray LaMontagne – Romantic, acoustic, folk – a la Van Morrison. Love, love love. Ray LaMontagne could hold me in his arms forever, and I could listen to him sing forever.

Donna the Buffalo – A local but nationally (internationally?) touring band. My all-time favorite, and a family favorite. Let me put it to you this way, Donna the Buffalo is what I was listening to as my children were being born.

Justin Bieber – What? My kids like it, okay?? And there is just nothing wrong with bubblegum pop.

Rusted Root – I am playing them today because I am going to see them tomorrow. Whoot!
