Yesterday’s NaBloPoMo prompt was “If you could live anywhere, where would it be?”
This is something I have given a lot of thought to lately. Honestly, I’m very unhappy where I am. I try to make the most of my circumstances and find something to be grateful for every day. But our house needs work, and we have no money to do it. It’s too small for us. There is no closet space. My office is the dining room table. These things are manageable, but when you are in the middle of it all day, every day, it gets old. Depressing. Overwhelming.
And while I do have family that lives close – in-laws, aunts and uncles, cousins and nieces, my own parents and sisters live a two day drive away. And I miss them. Terribly. Every day that my children learn or do something new, or every time people who live close say they don’t see us enough is a heart wrenching reminder that my family gets to see us twice a year at best.
A couple of years ago we took a vacation to central Virginia. I loved it! I used to live in North Carolina and I hated it. Too many pine trees, and not enough fall color. But the mountains of Virginia are amazing, and it is relatively close to the beach. I have always wanted to live at the beach.
More importantly it is a one day drive to Upstate NY, and a one day drive to Georgia. A good happy medium, I think, with the opportunity to see both of our families more often. And the opportunity for more happiness and less heartbreak.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

So sorry that you are unhappy where you are. Hopefully you will find the means and a way to move.

Thank you Kathy, maybe someday it will happen!
I think Virginia would be fabulous, much better than NC but not as good as SC, lol. So, how can you make that happen?

Kirk has to find a new job, and we have to sell our house!!
I’m sorry you aren’t happy where you are
When I grew up in PA, I couldn’t wait to get the heck out of town and explore the world, certain that I would never want to live there after high school graduation and life beyond. After living on the road for three years and serving in that man’s army for one year, I came home to south central PA and that was where I ended up marrying and raising my family. I loved it there. Now I live in Wisconsin, and I love it here too. I’ve learned over the years that home is where your heart is. I would live in a box with Michael.

I know. I try to remember home is where the heart is, but my heart says my parents are my home too. Since my grandmother died I don’t really have a “home” to go to, to just “be.” I don’t know, my husband and kids are my home, but sometimes I feel like I need more. And I need my parents to see my kids!
HEY! We have color here in NC! I never knew you lived here… I didn’t do this prompt.. waiting for my day 3 inspiration to hit
Think it may be later today after we’re done with lego league competition. I’m with you though on the house thing.. so many things that need to be done and none of them are cheap fixes (hello, replacing the driveway of death aka $12,000 that I don’t have). Hang in there girlie.. we’ll all get where we need to be eventually. For me it’s out west or the Caribbean.

Funny, I don’t remember color at all! Maybe because it was when I was young and dark.
I lived outside of Raleigh, in Wilson.
I think the Caribbean sounds amaze-ballz!
